Are you failing enough? One of the common threads I have observed with great business leaders and entrepreneurs is their ability to experiment. Those experiments will often fail more than they succeed.Yet still they move forward. They learn and they grow. They take the emotion out of the process and look objectively at what worked, and what didn’t.Then they move on.This process isn’t years in the making, it might not even be months. It could be weeks or even days. Not only are they prepared to experiment and fail, but they do so at pace. For me action is a vital ingredient of this approach. You only get a fully informed view with the benefit of hindsight. If you wait for perfection to make a decision and give something a go then you’ll never pass go.So get comfortable with making imperfect decisions and the prospect that you are going to fail.It will be hard for you to innovate and grow if you don’t.What about in your business? How are you experimenting and learning through failure?

Ps I’ve tried at least 10 new experiments this past 2 weeks and around 80% have failed! But the 2 that worked have created opportunities - and I’ve learnt a lot from the 8 that didn’t work.

The power of setting a clear intention 🚀At 8.30pm last night I’d decided I was going to Boot Camp this morning. Not only that, but I got my kit out and ready, and set my alarm for an hour before the session.I went to bed knowing exactly what I was going to do when I got up.Why?Because I’d set a clear intention the night before and so had already started preparing in my mind. The result?I had a challenging but great workout this morning and now feel supercharged for the day.I’m not sharing this for bonus points for the workout, I’m sharing it because I believe that anything is possible with the power of clear intention. What have you done recently where this worked for you?Perhaps you’ve got something coming up and this approach could help?Enjoy your weekend all 🫶

What role does collaboration and partnerships play in your life?Personally, I am huge fan of both, and regularly talk about the power of them.I think the 1980's American rapper Vanilla Ice was onto something when he said "alright stop, collaborate and listen"...In a world where we are ever more connected, how we choose to work and interact with others around us can be transformational.By being open and curious, we can view others as complements to our own skills and expertise, leverage new insights, experiences and ways of working.I have an active, positive, ambitious and growth mindset, and I know and appreciate that I can't get very far on my own. I believe that the power of partnerships and collaboration can fundamentally accelerate us as individuals and our businesses. So why settle for steady growth when you could 10x it by establishing strong and meaningful partnerships and collaborating with awesome people or businesses in your network? An organisation I want to call out today is Enable, and particularly Nick Rose, Mark Gilham and Adam Jamal. They have changed the game when it comes to strategic rebate management and have been on a tremendous growth trajectory in the last 3-5 years, and I have been collaborating with them as a partner for the last 2 of those. We have developed some great business together, attended joint webinars and podcasts to promote best practice and share thought leadership. I was also honoured to speak at their conference in May and they even sponsored my book, The Power of Professional Procurement. This is why collaboration is invaluable - you just don't know where that next connection might lead and it's why I think being open and curious is a super power! So why not help me start a movement by paying it forward. If you could teleport back in time to give your 21 year old self some advice, what would it be?For me (aside from lose the gold earring and green suit) I’d say:1) When times get tough remember it’s only temporary - things will get better so just keep moving forward.2) Don’t take life or yourself too seriously - stay humble, be kind to yourself and others, and enjoy the ride as it goes fast!3) Stop worrying about what others think and take more risks. You’ll regret what you didn’t do more than what you did. What would your top 3 be?

Are you a fan of podcasts? It seems you can't escape them in recent times. A quick search on Google highlights more choice than you can cope with. In fact it's estimated there are between 3-5 million podcasts worldwide! If you're looking to tap into this enormous industry where do you start? For me, I started small. I was a guest on my first podcast in August 2022, The Smart Connector hosted by Jane Bayler. Since then I have been a guest on 12, ranging from sustainability to leadership, scorecards to construction, and rebates to procurement.I've also recorded a new episode of I'm The Gaffer with Gavin Coyle👷♂️🛡️ due to release next month, and have calls with 3 other podcasts this month about being a potential guest. Why? Well for me, podcasts are a great way to get your message out there to a wider audience, but also a great way to practice your presentation and communication skills.I've met some amazing people and had the opportunity to talk to audiences in the UK, US, Australia and in some cases to globally. What's my point? Well, you could be missing out on a great way to engage with your target audience. In fact, your next dream client is probably out there just waiting to hear you talk about your passion and share your story and ideas.Wondering where to start, try doing some research into the type of podcasts that fit with your target audience. Make a list of at least 10.Next up, outreach to them. Tell them that you have something that will be of interest to their audience and why. Many of these podcast owners will be delighted to hear from you and excited for fresh ideas.I remember being very nervous ahead of my first podcast. But like most things in life it wasn't scary at all, it was the fact it was a new experience. So if you're looking for a way to expand your business and personal reach have a go at getting yourself on a podcast guest list - who knows you might be a future podcast host too!PS tell me below what would be your dream podcast to be a guest on and why? For me, I'd say The High Performance Podcast or Diary of a CEO!

Are you always being yourself?I reflected on this today after a meeting this morning. The meeting was with my county colleagues from Home-Start - the other chairs and managers that make up our regional Northamptonshire schemes.I have to admit, at times I felt a little out of my depth. There were discussions around the social care system, MASH referrals and names and acronyms of things I’m not familiar with.Yet I was sat in a room with very experienced professionals who have operated in that world for years - compared with my mere 2.5 years. But I listened. I observed. I reminded myself of my role.I wasn’t an imposter here, I wasn’t trying to be an expert in this field. We’ve got those in the room.I was being me. A highly experienced leader and advisor, with strong strategic insights, great listening and communication skills, and the drive and commitment to get things done.It was those attributes that came to the fore today, and as a result we came together as a team to create some really interesting cross-scheme plans. So let me ask you this. What situations have you been in lately that you felt a little uncomfortable in? Did you back yourself to just be you and apply your unique skills set? What was the result?

Are you fuelling your mind as well as your body?Think about your last workout. How did it go? I guess if you’d had a late night, ate poorly or drank alcohol then you may have under-performed. If you put bad stuff in then expect the same level of output. So what about in your mind? What are you consuming and how is that influencing your performance?I love to both read and listen to books and podcasts. I’ve always got a few on the go at any one time.I wanted to share these 3 books though, as they have each had a more profound impact on both my personal and professional life.➡️ Key Personal of Influence by Daniel Priestley➡️ $100m Offers by Alex Hormozi ➡️ How to Grasp Confidence & Own Your Power by Tara LaFon Gooch, MBA, CVPThey each gave me new perspective, fresh ideas but also positive action.Have you read or listened to them? If so what did you think? If not, why not take a look! They might just inspire you too.
