Netflix shares new list of 'secret codes' to unlock hidden genres (2024)

We're now in June and the sun seems to making more and more of an appearance - but it's clear that, even with the good weather, many of us love nothing more than cosying up on the sofa and sinking our teeth into some proper good telly.

However, it's always a tad bittersweet once you've rattled your way through an entire series only to feel totally stumped at what to crack on with next.

So, in order to remedy all your post-binge blues, Netflix has come up with a pretty handy archive of secret codes you can use to find exactly what you want to watch and they've just released a brand-new list of them to unlock hidden genres.

Not familiar with the TV life hack?

Well, Tudum explains: "Your Netflix queue is always stacked with movies and shows to hit play on, but what you might not know is that there’s a hidden way to make that viewing experience even better."

An 'always growing' list that dates back to the earliest days of the streamer company already tops 36,000 - yes that many - secret codes making it the perfect little tool for armchair critics who either know exactly what they want to watch or want to try something entirely new.

Basically, it's like ordering off a secret streaming menu where all need to do to explore the cornucopia of categories is to simply open up your web browser, type in 'netflix.com/browse/genre/' and then add your ID code of choice to the end of the URL.

The categories in question are also extremely specific niche including the likes of Deep Sea Horror Movies (45028), Spicy Romance (81572628) and Steamy Romantic Movies (35800) and Lavish Reality Lifestyles (81418611).

And we could see a whole lot more popping up as Michael Raphan, a curation strategist at Netflix, has revealed that new codes are being added whenever inspiration strikes.

Some previous codes include; Action with a Side of Romance (81647318), the Pop Culture Now collection (34399), 'u herd of baby reindeer? ok more like it' (81783651), summer concerts with The Endless Tour (81719779), Small Town Scares (81496215) and even Twisted Christmas (2300975).

Netflix has since put together a 'starter pack' of a combination of codes highlighted by Raphan and fellow curation strategist, Mary McIlwain, options popular with fans, and a few that Tudum just think are fun.
